Key Returnees
Senior Spencer DeMedal has scored 1,039 points throughout his first three seasons on the varsity level. Last year he put together a scoring average of 18 points with 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks per game. In the playoffs, DeMedal increased his scoring average to 29 points. “He’s an all-around player that can play positions 1 through 5,” says coach Jeckavitch. The Greyhounds also return seniors Reese Bender (3 ppg, 2 rpg), Joey Pezzano (2 ppg) and Tyler Kish as well as junior Colton Marett (2 ppg, 2 rpg). Wilmington has a large sophomore class led by Cameron Marett (1 ppg), Robert Pontius (2 ppg, 2 rpg), Danny Hanssen and Jacob Yohman who will be asked to log many minutes this season.

Outlook
With the graduation of Jimmy Powers (17 ppg, 4 apg), Jared Berlin (5 ppg, 4 rpg) and Jacob Harvey (6 ppg) – the youth on the roster must step up in order to achieve another successful season in New Wilmington. With that said coach Jeckavitch believes in his group. “We think we have as good of a shot to win the section. With one of the best players (in the area) returning as well as a great deal of youth, a winning season – with a chance at winning the region – could occur.”

Wilmington appeared at camps this off-season at Slippery Rock, Grove City and Akron. The team also participated in the Sharpsville Underclassmen Tournament and the Sharon Spring League. “This gave our underclassmen a graet opportunity to learn and grow as a team while playing together,” states Jeckavitch.
