Officials are still working to determine what caused the fire

GREEN TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – More than 75 emergency personnel and 20 emergency vehicles responded to a fire on Western Reserve Road in Green Township.

Fire officials said something within Saddle Creek Farms Bedding’s warehouse caught fire, causing the entire building to go up in flames around 1 a.m. Saturday morning. They added that nearly everything was lost, except some sawdust that was salvaged.

“By the time we got here, in comparison to where it was at in the fire, it was actually in the middle of the fire,” said Adam Noble, assistant chief of the Green Township Fire Department. “So pretty much all of the machinery is more than likely going to be a total loss.”

Fire crews from Green Township, Beaver, Canfield, Springfield, Ellsworth, Boardman and Damascus were called in, along with water tankers.

No one was injured from the blaze.

“A handful of us were up the last night as well, so some of us have only slept 3-4 fours the last two days,” Noble said. “So there were a couple people you noticed real quick they were tired and need a little bit of rest.”

The warehouse was used to store animal bedding, which burned for a couple hours before crews were able to get it under control.

The owner said there was also damage to a 14-wheeler and a backhoe truck.

Noble said the fire couldn’t have been put out without the cooperation of everyone on the scene.

“For something like this it’s very important, the problem we have back here is water sources. There’s a lake back here that we’re getting water from but the biggest problem was getting to it and making sure we had enough apparatus, personnel, hoses to get the water where it needed to go,” Noble said.

Officials are still working to determine what caused the fire. Fire marshals will be on the scene Monday to continue investigating.
