Key Returnees
As coach Simmons pointed out, many players will play a vital role in the team’s development this season. Seniors Ceandre Backus, Deamonte Pagan, and Terrell Weaver all have varsity experience. Larry Ransom is the lone junior returnee who lettered last winter. “The players have bought into the team philosophy and the idea of work hard every day,” says Simmons.

Outlook
Five of East’s first seven contests a year ago were decided by 7-points or less as they started 0-10. However, the Panthers went onto post a 5-7 record from mid-January until their playoff loss to Harding. Simmons indicates, “We have to continue the improvement of our players on learning how to play as a unit, improving on things learned from last year. Our expectation is that we expect to compete for the conference championship.”
