YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman told police that she shot an intruder she found in the kitchen of her Imperial Street home.
Yalanda Whipple, 27, said she and her children were carrying items from her house into the car. She said her children started screaming when seeing the man in the home.
Whipple told police she grabbed a gun from under a pillow and shot the man in self defense.
Police said the man, identified as 22-year-old Adam Perkins, then staggered outside and was picked up by someone. He was found by police officers at apartments on Tyrell Avenue with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Perkins is now at St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he is in critical condition.
Whipple denied seeing Perkins before.
No one has been charged as police continue to investigate the circumstances surround
Neighbors said they heard two to four gunshots that sounded like they were coming from outside around 4:30 p.m. They said they saw a woman run out of a house with a gun and into another house with two young children inside.
Neighbors said they then saw a man running in the street. He fell to the ground and said he’d been shot, according to neighbors’ accounts.
They said a car came up, the door swung open and the man got inside before it sped off to Salt Springs Road.
