AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Eugene F. “Buzz” Altemus, age 92, of Austintown passed away peacefully on Monday, November 21, 2016 at his home.
Born March 3, 1924 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Edgar and Alice Altemus.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Patricia A.; son, James Altemus; daughter, Melinda (Paul) Welsh; stepdaughter, Wendy (Jeff) Gorup and beloved granddaughter, Emily Gorup, whom he adored.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah “Sally” in 1973; brothers, Robert “Red” and Kenneth Altemus and a sister, Virginia O’Neil.
While stationed in France during WWII, Buzz sang with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, played Armed Forces Football and became life-long friends with a POW that he supervised. After the war, he attended LSU where he played football.
Buzz had a long successful career with WBBW and later Clear Channel. He continued entertaining throughout his life as an MC, stand-up comic, and a “Foster Brooks” impersonator.
Buzz was a long-time active member of the Uptown Kiwanis and his church, Zion Lutheran, as well as an avid Steelers fan.
Per his wishes, there will be no services at this time.
