YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s been ten years since the Youngstown State football team has qualified for the playoffs. When you think about it… that means, the players on this year’s team were in middle school the last time the Penguins advanced to the postseason.
Not a lot of celebration among the Sunday as their name was called… but that’s not apathy… that’s confidence. After finishing the regular season at 8-3 overall… there was no doubt the Penguins were headed for post season play., and the goals extend far beyond Round One.
“We expected to be in the playoffs so it wasn’t a shocker. But we’re definitely trying to go for the big one,” Senior LeRoy Alexander said.
“Yea, you enjoy it. you say wow, we made the playoffs,” Head Coach Bo Pelini said. “We got bigger things in mind, at least I do and I know this football team does so we’ll see. You gotta earn you’re way through it. you gotta earn your way to play that next opportunity and it starts next Saturday and that’s where my whole focus will be. It’s win or go home, so let’s go. Let’s see what we got.”
Saturday’s kickoff is set for 5PM at Stambaugh Stadium.
