Break-in disturbs residents in Brownlee Woods neighborhood

The entire event on Irma Street was captured on a neighbor's surveillance video

Neighbors in the Brownlee Woods area of Youngstown are disturbed by a recent break-in.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A home break-in in the Brownlee Woods neighborhood in Youngstown was caught on a neighbor’s surveillance camera.

Just as quickly as the burglar entered the Vargas family’s front porch on Irma Street, he took off running.

The man didn’t know Justin Vargas, who was sleeping on his couch at the time.

“Didn’t expect it at all, it was a surprise. I wish I could’ve done more or identified the guy,” Vargas said.

The entire event was captured on the Fantone family’s cameras.

The video shows Vargas coming out of the home shortly after. He took a right turn and the burglar turned left.

The burglar can be seen walking through the neighbors’ front yards, and then he’s out of the camera’s view.

“I have cameras back, side, front. You know, all the way down,” Lori Fantone said. “I am so thankful to have that. Not only for us, now we are just able to protect our neighbors.”

Those who live in the area say that, unfortunately, break-ins are nothing new.

The latest burglary really shakes Fantone up, especially since she caught it on tape.

“To watch that and watch him run, oh my gosh, that was horrible. It was horrifying,” she said.

Vargas warns that anyone considering breaking into a home in the future should think twice.

“I wouldn’t try this area again. Mainly because we got eyes on here now.”
