Key Returnees
The Golden Eagles return four of their top six scorers. Senior Drew Magestro returns after averaging 15.5 points and 5.2 assists while making 85 three-point shots (43.8%) and connecting on 51.1% of his shots from the field (162-317). Mohamed Konate and Channing Phillips are also back for their senior seasons. Konate scored 8.9 points while Phillips tallied a 6.2 average. Sophomore Maceo Austin, who has already gained offers from four Division I college programs (Akron, Duquense, Penn State & West Virginia), finished the year with 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Newcomers Manis Norman, Marcin Wiszomirski, and former Mathews Mustang Clay O’Dell all will be counted on to contribute right away. Coach Mancino will be counting on Thomas Gilmore, Ben Taylor and freshman Ike Herster to see plenty of playing time this coming season.

This past March, Kennedy Catholic won their seventh state championship in school history by knocking off Mathematics, Civics & Sciences, 71-60. Coach Mancino, who was a member of Kennedy’s first state championship in 1985-86, captured his first title as a coach. The team featured players such as Jason Austin (15.6 ppg, 6.0 apg) and Sag Konate (15.5 ppg, 11.1 rpg), who is now playing for Bob Huggins at West Virginia, who will be difficult to replace. “Our expectations are we want to get better every day and hopefully put ourselves in a position to do what we did last year,” said Mancino. “(However) that’s way down the road and we are no where near that goal right now.”
