YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – For some people, Black Friday is just about the experience. For others, though, there’s a real science to it, and that science involves a lot of prepping and planning.
Luckily these days, there are some websites that do the work for you.
Wallet Hub compares those Black Friday ads that are already available online. The credit report website looked at nearly 8,000 deals from 35 of the biggest stores across the country.
The website says Macy’s has the highest average discount, ringing in at 63 percent.
It says to make Black Friday shopping just like going to the grocery store. It also recommends doing your comparison shopping online or through the paper advertisements that stores send out. If it’s not 40 percent off, it’s probably not worth your time.
You’ll see the most deals on toys, but they probably won’t be at rock bottom prices yet. Jewelry will, but those deals are harder to find.
Experts also recommend using the Black Friday Database to search your item to see if it’s cheaper elsewhere and the Amazon app that does that using a barcode scanner.
Locally, the Southern Park Mall and Eastwood Mall will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
JCPenney is opening at 3 p.m. Thursday, while other stores, like TJ Maxx and Dillard’s will stay closed until Black Friday.
WKBN has a list of other stores open on Thanksgiving.
