Struthers City Council looking to pass city-wide parking ban

The parking ban is not being discussed until a public forum on December 7, despite having caused a lot of commotion

The council passed a "no parking" ordinance two weeks ago at a special meeting as a safety measure on city streets.

STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – Struthers City Council is now looking to pass a city-wide parking ban.

The council passed a “no parking” ordinance two weeks ago at a special meeting as a safety measure on city streets.

“I believe what they’re talking about is looking at every road in the city, doing an analysis to see whether or not that road would qualify for any type of parking zones to be erected in that area,” said Struthers Mayor Terry Stocker.

Residents were outraged when “no parking” signs went up last week on West Wilson Street, between 5th and 8th streets.

“School buses, WRTA, trash – they have a problem getting up and down the streets because there’s parking on both sides. Most streets are narrow, so we decided that we really need to look at the situation,” said Carol Crytzer, a 2nd ward councilwoman.

The matter will be discussed at a public forum on December 7.

“There is a lot we need to talk about. We want everyone to be at this meeting because we welcome everyone’s input,” Crytzer said.

“There are some areas that need to be looked at. Whether a city wide parking ban is the answer? I guess we’ll find out when council unfolds their plan,” Stocker said.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story said drivers would be allowed to park on West Wilson Street until December 7. Struthers said incorrect information was provided to the media, and drivers will not be allowed to park there. The parking ban there will be enforced, and drivers will be cited.
