Key Returnees
Howland will need to replace their top two scorers and rebounders in Luciano Romeo (14.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg) and Kyle Fenton (10.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg). Seniors Nate Leventis (4.5 ppg) and Mike Massucci (7.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg) will be asked to lead as junior Connor Tamarkin had a strong sophomore campaign which saw him finish third in scoring (8.5), rebounding (3.1) and assists (2.1). Tamarkin led the team in field goal percentage (52.7%) while Leventis took team-high honors with 35.3% on three-point shooting. Massucci led the Tigers in free throw shooting with 80% (28-35). “Connor, Mike, and Nate are the players that return with the most varsity experience,” indicates coach Bubon. “They’ll be counted on to lead the way for the new varsity players. We expect to compete every night, improve throughout the season and see where we end up.”

Outlook
The Tigers have failed to reach double-digit wins in each of the past three seasons. During that stretch, Howland has posted just a 9-29 league mark (23.7%) in the All-American Conference. Enter Dan Bubon – who spent the last five seasons at Liberty – as the new head varsity basketball coach at Howland. The former Harding standout is beginning his 14th season as the head coach of a basketball program (5 at Liberty and 8 at Champion). He’ll be the 9th coach in the past 20-years at Howland. “I’m pretty excited going in to year one at Howland,” states Bubon. “The kids have worked hard in the offseason, our guard play has the potential to be very good. We can be a very good shooting team but our lack of size is a concern. If we can compete on the boards – I think that we will have a shot in just about every game this season.”
