AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road in Canfield, with Pastor Russ Adams officiating, for Eugene Vollmer, 88, who passed away Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016.
Gene was born March 20, 1928, in Niederhochstadt, Germany, the son of Ludwig and Emma Klar Vollmer.
A 1946 graduate of Chaney High School, he earned an Industrial Certificate in Architect and Structure Drafting from the Industrial Trades Institute and was an apprenticeship painter with Halls Painting. He then went on to work and retired from the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of the U.S. Post Office Retirees (NARFE).
Gene served his country with honor in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1946-1948, where he served as a rifle sharpshooter and cook and earned the rank of Corporal.
His wife, the former Harriet L. Berndt, whom he married June 9, 1951, passed away September 17, 2013.
Gene had a passion for photography, his family and his friends.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Deborah Vollmer of Youngstown, Dave (Cindy) Vollmer of Sagamore Hills and Karen Vollmer-Hagler of Buena Park, California; grandchildren, Matthew Senchesak of Las Vegas, Brian and Kelsey Vollmer of Cleveland and Sara Vollmer of Los Angeles; great-grandson, Landen Senchesak of Las Vegas and a sister, Margaret Vollmer of Youngstown.
Besides his parents and his wife, Harriet, Gene was preceded in death by his twin daughters, Gloria Ann and Linda Jean and his son-in-law, Brian Hagler.
The Vollmer family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road in Canfield.
Interment will be held at Green Haven Memorial Gardens with Military Honors at 12:00 Noon.
