Key Returnees
Four-year lettermen Isaac Stecker (6’5/Sr) returns after a productive junior campaign which saw the big man score 10 points (9.6) and 8 rebounds (7.7) per contest. “(Isaac) has worked extremely hard this off-season to prepare for this (year),” says coach Hammond. “I am really excited to see him bust out and have a great season.” Taking over for Shayne Rhodes as the team’s floor general will be sophomore Roman Ferry (6.5 ppg, 1.5 spg). “He’s a competitor and a hard worker,” points out Hammond. “He’s going to be able to lead the team on the floor this season.” Senior center Zach Pugh (6’6) scored 4.0 points per game last year while Jimmy Knepper and Caleb Whitmer both stand at 6’3 which should provide the Bears with a size advantage in almost every league matchup. The team will also feature perimeter players such as Tanner Barr (28.8% 3PT), Brock Simpson and Damon Custer along with junior Tommy Kornbau (77.8% FT).

Outlook
Year two begins for coach Jeff Hammond in Leetonia. The Bears must replace three seniors including their top two scorers from a year ago (Evan Davis, 12.7; Shayne Rhodes, 10.1). Coach Hammond is ecstatic to get the season underway. “I haven’t been this excited for a season in a long time. I really believe this team has the capabilities to accomplish some great things this year. We have several players that are making the transition to varsity this season. (During) the off-season, they’ve been provided with many opportunities to compete at that level.”
