ZANESFIELD, Ohio (AP) – Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a western Ohio man found dead in his home on Thanksgiving.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office says 45-year-old Jeffrey Brentlinger’s adult daughter called 911 on Thursday to say she had returned home to find her father dead in the Zanesfield house he shared with her and her daughter. Sheriff Andrew Smith says the coroner preliminarily ruled the death a homicide.

Authorities say Brentlinger’s daughter told them she left the house Wednesday and found her father upon returning around 11 a.m. Thursday. She said the front door was open and there was mud on the floor.

Authorities say there were no signs of forced entry.

Investigators say they believe the shooting occurred sometime between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
