Crews are working on a water break in Niles.

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Crews in Niles worked to repair a water line break on Morningside Road.

The break happened about 11 p.m. Thanksgiving night near Lee Phillips’ home. Phillips was out Black Friday shopping when the line broke, so his neighbor called to let him know that water was flowing near his house.

When Phillips got home, he called the water department and initially couldn’t get a hold of anyone, so he took matters into his own hands.¬†Phillips said he cleared the drains but that didn’t help, so he went a step further.

“I dug them out and dug little trenches along the way and threw some sand bags down to try to divert the flow of water,” Phillips said.

Crews arrived to fix the line just after 3 a.m.
