SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (WKBN) – Farrell jumped ahead early Friday night and never looked back, downing Ridgway, 20-7, at Slippery Rock in a Class A state quarterfinal showdown. The Steelers advance to the state semifinals next weekend, where they’ll play the winner of Clarion and Jeanette, who face-off Saturday at noon.
Farrell led 6-0 midway through the first quarter when Kyi Wright found Jourdan Townsend for a 15-yard TD pass.
The Steelers then added on just before halftime, as Christian Lewis scored on a 4-yard TD run with 59 seconds remaining for a 14-0 lead (the two-point conversion was successful). A 45-yard pass from Wright to Lewis keyed the scoring drive.
Ridgway — which entered with a 12-0 record — was held to just five yards in the first half.
Early in the third quarter, Townsend pushed Farrell’s lead to 20-0 when he returned a punt 55 yards for a TD.
Ridgway finally got on the board midway through the fourth on Neil McDonald’s 2-yard TD run. It followed a Farrell fumble at its own 12 yard-line.
