Wilmington rolls into State Semis for Verrelli’s 300th win

The Greyounds shut out Kane, 42-0 Saturday in a PIAA State Quarterfinal.

Slippery Rock, PA (WKBN) – The Greyhounds are marching on to the State Semifinals after a 42-0 win over Kane Saturday in a Class AA State Quarterfinal at Slippery Rock University.

Wilmington jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as legendary coach Terry Verelli earned his  300th career victory.

Kyle Slicker kicked off the scoring on a 30 yard touchdown run, followed by a Reese Bender 43 yard touchdown reception from Spencer DeMedal to make it 14-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.

DeMedal hit Bender again in the 2nd quarter from 39 yards, capping off a 5 play, 79 yard drive. Colton Marrett and Bryson Verrelli also tacked on receiving touchdowns to make it a 35-0 game at halftime.

Marrett added a 5 yard score in the 4th quarter to round out the scoring.

Wilmington advances to play the winner of Steel Valley and Neshannock in the PIAA State AA Semi Finals.
