SALEM, Ohio – Lois June (Kirkland) Poffenberger, 84 of Salem, passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at West Branch of Auburn Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born on July 8, 1932, in Sisterville, West Virginia, to the late “Bo” and Marjorie (Smith) Kirkland.
She worked in the kitchen of the Gulf Club from 1974-1984. She was on the PTO committee of the United School District and served on the Ways and Means committee. She was the former Den Mother for Cub Scouts Pack #62. She was an enthusiastic bowler and bowled on Tuesday mornings at the former Timberlanes Bowling Alley. She also enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Poffenberger, whom she married on January 15, 1955; her sons, Neil D. (Amy) Poffenberger of Hanover, Pennsylvania and Kirk D. (Jennifer) Poffenberger; her sister, Carol Myers of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Carl Kirkland, Don Kirkland, Betty Covch and Marsha Cook; her son, Mark J. Poffenberger and one grandson.
There will be no services or calling hours held.
