YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The man who police say is responsible for a nearly five-hour standoff in Struthers earlier this week appeared in court Friday morning, heavily guarded.

Sean Dixson is charged with two counts of felonious assault, three counts of child endangering and one count of vandalism. He was released from the hospital earlier Friday morning.

Investigators say Dixson held four young children hostage in a house after waving a gun around toward police officers. Police went to Dixson’s home in Struthers on Monday after reports that Dixson was chasing his wife around with a stick. When they arrived, police said Dixson hit a police cruiser and ran back into the house.

A crisis team eventually broke in to get the children out and arrested Dixson.

Police said Dixson has a history of mental health issues.

Friday in court, bond was set at $55,500, and Dixson is due back in court next week.
