COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren JFK has won the Division VII State Championship with a 24-6 victory over Minster at the Horseshoe in Columbus. It is the Eagles’ second state title in program history. JFK finishes its storied season with a record of 14-1.
The Wildcats struck first late in the first quarter, fueled by a 42-yard pass completion from Jared Huelsman to Isaac Schmiesing. Huelsman later punched it in for a 1-yard touchdown run. The PAT was no-good, but Minster had a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Following a Ryan Lee interception, Kennedy got on the scoreboard. Greg Valent punched it in for a one-yard touchdown. The extra-point made it 7-6 JFK halfway through the second quarter.
The Eagles increased their lead late in the second quarter when Justin Bofenkamp connected on a 29-yard field goal which gave the Eagles a 10-6 advantage at halftime.
JFK increased its lead when Evan Boyd reached across for a one-yard TD run, giving the Eagles a 17-6 lead late in the third quarter.
Boyd found the endzone again late in the fourth quarter with a 39-yard touchdown run to increase the Eagles’ lead to 24-6.
Boyd finished the game with 166 rushing yards on 36 carries with two touchdowns. Greg Valent added 44 yards on the ground with a touchdown.
Minster was led by Quarterback Jared Huelsman who tallied 53 rushing yards. He also completed 8-23 passes for 79 yards. The Wildcats end the season with a record of 10-5.
