Boardman improves to 2-0 behind Koontz’s 22

The Spartans scored 15 or more points in each quarter

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Boardman spoiled Niles’ home opener by handing the Red Dragons a 63-43 setback.

The Spartans were led by Travis Koontz’s 22 points. John Ryan connected on four three-point baskets to finish the contest with 15 points. Holden Lipke, who scored 11 against Harding in their last outing, added 12 Tuesday night.

The Spartans are off to a 2-0 start with a matchup on Saturday against Poland in the United Way Classic at 6 p.m.

Niles, who defeated Brookfield on Friday, lost the rebounding battle (32-22) against Boardman. The Red Dragons (1-1) will look to end their skid when they welcome Lakeview on Friday.
