CANFIELD, Ohio – Edward L. Olbrych, 83, passed away peacefully late Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2016, at his home.
Edward was born August 11, 1933, in Youngstown, a son of the late Antonio and Eleanor Bochenek Olbrych and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Olbrych was a graduate of South High School and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, where he was stationed in Germany.
Ed worked for 34 years for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1987 as a supervisor. After his retirement, he worked part-time for the Austintown FOE and for Spring Lakes Golf Course in Lake Milton.
In his younger years, Ed and his family were members of St. Stanislaus Church in Youngstown and more recently, were members of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church in Austintown, where he was active with bingo and the annual parish festival. Ed was also a member of FOE Austintown Aerie No. 3298.
He enjoyed polka music, gardening, giving his homegrown vegetables away, cheering for the Cleveland Browns and spending his winters in Bullhead City, Arizona. He truly loved baking kolachi with his wife for Christmas and Easter.
Ed leaves his wife of 60 years, Josephine “JoAnn” Andreyko Olbrych, whom he married July 14, 1956; his son, Anthony L. Olbrych of New Castle, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Lorraine Bayer Lesick of Austintown; two grandchildren, Jim (Candra) Bayer of North Jackson and Jessica (Josh) Crissman of Brunswick; four great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Josie, Rebecca and Benjamin; a brother, Joseph Olbrych of Boardman and two sisters, Jenny Pawlyshn of Mentor and Wanda Tomko of Middleburg Heights.
A brother, George Olbrych and a sister, Ann Estok, are deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
