Rev. Larry Robert Johnson, Boardman, Ohio - obit

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Anstrom Chapel, 8387 Tod Ave., Boardman for Larry Robert Johnson, 66 of Boardman who died early Tuesday morning, December 13 at his residence with his family at his side.

Larry was born October 30, 1950 in Youngstown, a son of the late Robert W. and Shirley (Maher) Johnson and was a lifelong area resident.

He graduated from Boardman High School in 1969 and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

Larry received his Bachelor of Theology from Melodyland School of Theology in Anaheim, California in 1978 and his Doctorate of Theology from Omega Bible Institute and Seminary in 2015.

He served as the pastor at Safe Harbor Church and as the chaplain for the Boardman Police Department.

Larry also wrote a column in the Boardman News, “Open Your Bible.” He was a member of the American Legion Post #565, the Civil War Roundtable, Mahoning County and the World War II Roundtable. Larry was a founding member of Captain Thomas W. Patton Camp #2021, Sons of Confederate Veterans and had participated in the annual Boardman Memorial Day Parade for many years.

He leaves his wife, the former Beverly Patrick whom he married March 14, 1980; three daughters, Lauren Rose Johnson of Boardman, Aimee Lynn (Zack) Weyant and Melissa Erin Johnson, both of Columbus; his brother, Ronald J. (Cindy) Johnson of Boardman; three sisters, Judith A. Bell of Boardman, Jayne E. (Robert) Greene of Merritt Island, Florida and Joan (Chris) Deladurantey of Naples, Florida. Larry also leaves his beloved dachshunds, Anna Belle and Rylee.

Friends may call on Friday, December 16 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 17 from 9:15 – 9:45 a.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Anstrom Chapel, Boardman.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the Boardman Police Department for their support and generosity given to Larry. The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the Boardman Police Department and Canine Unit, 8299 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512
