YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Mahoning County Salvation Army helped make some Christmas wishes come true Wednesday morning.

About 800 families that signed up with the Salvation Army were able to take part in the annual toy and food distribution at the Austintown Plaza.

The toys and gifts were donated throughout the year, according to Major Valerie Kahn.

“I’ve seen tears. I’ve seen hearts that have been lightened with the burden of not knowing what they’re going to provide for their children. Generally, I just see a thankfulness,” Kahn said.

The Salvation Army says more than 1,800 local children will receive Christmas toys and clothes this holiday season. All of the children and families have been preregistered.
