Katherine “Kay” Bury, Dublin, Ohio – obit

DUBLIN, Ohio – Katherine “Kay” Bury, 91, formerly of Struthers, passed away Friday morning, December 16, 2016, at her home at the Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing, following a long and fulfilling life.

Kay was born July 6, 1925, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Dmytro and Mary Rolko Dashko and was a lifelong area resident until moving in 2015 to Dublin to be close to her family.

She was a homemaker and a very active member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown. Kay was a member of both the English and Ukrainian Choir at the church, was a CCD teacher for 25 years and was a founding member of the Holy Trinity Rosary Society, where she served as treasurer until recently. Mrs. Bury was also active making and serving pyrohy as a fundraising activity for the church.

Kay was a member of the Knights of Columbus’ K.C.-ettes and she enjoyed golf, walking and spending time at Pymatuning Lake.

Her beloved husband of 60 years, John Bury, whom she married November 23, 1946, passed away July 25, 2007.

Kay leaves her daughter, Valentina “Vallie” (Lee) Pinkerton of Pickerington; a granddaughter, Christina “Tina” (Brad) Smith of Powell; three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Maya and Brandon Smith; three stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Delores Dashko of Struthers; a niece, Debbie Dashko and a nephew, Dr. Peter Dashko of Florida.

Besides her husband, a sister, Annie Dashko and a brother, Peter Dashko, preceded her in death.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, December 27, 2016, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Funeral services will begin at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at the funeral home and will continue with a Divine Liturgy which will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church on West Rayen Avenue in Youngstown.

Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery in Coitsville, where Kay will be laid to rest next to her husband.
