Woman gets some jail time, probation for killing pedestrian in Canfield

A pedestrian was struck by a car on Route 224 in Canfield

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman who hit and killed a pedestrian along Route 224 in Canfield was sentenced Thursday.

Kerri L. Sefchik, 31, of Youngstown, will spend 30 days in the Mahoning County Jail and be on probation for 5 years.

Sefchik pleaded guilty in October to aggravated vehicular homicide in the Nov. 7, 2015 accident that killed Ty’Shawn J. Burkley, 20, of Youngstown.

The accident happened about 12:35 a.m. when Sefchik went off the right side of the road, striking Burkley who was walking along the side of the road.

Sefchik was ordered to undergo drug and alcohol treatment as part of her sentence, although she wasn’t convicted of an alcohol-related charge.
