CHENEY, Washington (WKBN) – YSU and Eastern Washington both held a light workout on Friday afternoon, in preparation for Saturday’s FCS Semifinal matchup. Both practices were closed to the media.
The Penguins also held team meetings and film study during the day, before capping off the night by going to see the movie “Hacksaw Ridge.’
Saturday’s contest will be held at Roos Field, one of the most unique fields in all of college football. Affectionately referred to by its nickname ‘The Inferno,’ it is the only all-red playing surface in college football, and was installed back in 2010.
YSU Head Coach Bo Pelini says, he isn’t overly concerned with the unique turf color.
‘I’ve played teams on the grass that wore green and it didn’t effect us too much. So, you can sit there and overthink this….I just get them ready to play.’
For the game, YSU is expected to wear white jerseys with red pants, while Eastern Washington will don all black uniforms.
The Penguins and Eagles are meeting for the second time in the FCS Semifinals. In 1997, the YSU topped EWU 25-14 en route to winning a national championship.
YSU is appearing in the FCS Semifinals for the twelfth time in program history.
Saturday’s kickoff is slated for 6:30PM ET.
