WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The City of Warren threw a celebration for the state champion Warren JFK Eagles football team on Saturday.
The Eagles brought home the Division VII State Championship on Dec. 3 with a 24-6 win against Minster at Ohio State.
On Saturday inside the high school gymnasium, city officials and coaches took to the podium to speak to the athletes. Mayor Doug Franklin unveiled a sign honoring the championship team that will be going up on Monday.
Mayor Franklin said he could see the community in the team’s winning determination.
“They had a grit and they had a heart that was really above and beyond anything we’ve seen before with a lot of championship teams,” he said. “A lot of people had counted them out and they never gave up on themselves. It reflects our community.”
The Eagles ended the season with a 14-1 record, including six shutout games.
