YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Youngstown, concelebrated by Rev. Edward Noga and Rev. Shawn Conoboy, for Bibiano G. Rodriguez, 96, who passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 with his family by his side.
Bibiano was born August 28, 1920, in Penuelas, Puerto Rico, the son of Buenaventura Rodriguez and Amelia Gonzalez.
He was a resident of the Youngstown and Campbell area for 64 years.
Bibiano was self-taught, having never attended traditional school.
He went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946.
He worked as a steel worker for many years.
He attended both Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at Sta. Rosa de Lima Catholic Church and St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown. Bibiano was one of the founders and member of the Sons of Borinquen, the Spanish VFW, O.C.C.H.A and Sta. Rosa de Lima Catholic Church, where he was also a member of the choir.
His first wife, Elisa Rodriguez, whom he married August 7, 1953, passed away January 4, 1987.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Maria, of Youngstown, whom he married September 6, 1987; his children, Paul (Hilda) of Medina, Puerto Rico, John (Ada) Colon of McDonald, Gladys Rodriguez of Youngstown, Viviano (Aidez) of Campbell, Irving Rodriguez of Lodi, William (Gloria) Rodriguez of Virginia, Elizabeth (Robert) Rosenberg of Youngstown and Carmen Flores also of Youngstown; 27 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Bibiano was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Elisa Rodriguez; his son, Jorge Rodriguez; his daughter, Sally Zalovcik; grandsons, John N. Colon, Jr. and Ethan Zalovcik and a great-grandson Alex Zalovcik.
The Rodriguez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Wednesday, January 4 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
