YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Melvin D. Johnson Sr. will be held Friday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson departed this life December 31, 2016, at his residence in Youngstown.
Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Youngstown, a son of Edward and Mary Johnson.
He was a 1965 graduate of South High School and served in the U.S. Army.
He was an avid sports fan of all Ohio teams, especially the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers.
He was formerly employed with Schwebel’s Baking Co., retiring after 24 years of loyal service.
He dedicated his time to serving as a little league baseball and football coach and was known to the team as “Coach Coon.”
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Melvin D. Johnson, Jr., Crystal Johnson, Tonya Blunt, Sheila Johnson, Darrien Ford, Andre Ford and Treven Johnson; his sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Gewn Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson; his brothers, Edward, Robert, Brian and Alvin Johnson; 18 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ruth Young, Mary Helen Johnson-Curry and Carol Ann Johnson and two brothers, William Young and John L. Johnson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 13 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
