LISBON, Ohio – Clair Ellis Reiner, 84, passed away surrounded by his family at his home on Morris Street in Lisbon at 12:40 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2017. Known by many of his friends as “Pierre”, he had been ill for quite some time but had remained active until recently.
A son of the late William D. and Margaret Steele Reiner, he was born in McGrann, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1932.
He had attended Howland High School and had relocated to this area upon his marriage to the former Ruth Ann Paisley on August 8, 1970.
Clair was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He had worked in construction as a union pipefitter.
For many years, he and Ruth Ann were affiliated with the former Vagabond Campground in West Point, where they shared many happy times with their family.
A proud father and grandfather, he most enjoyed following the activities of his kids and grandkids but he also looked forward to helping with various functions at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, especially the Good Shepherd luncheons each week and also appreciated getting together with friends at the American Legion Post #374, Moose Lodge #122 and the Lisbon Eagles Club #2216. Clair was honored to be a past president and secretary of the East Liverpool Chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police Associates and had also served as trustee of the Ohio State Fraternal Order of Police Associates.
Ruth Ann survives him at home. Also surviving is a daughter, Nisa Welsh and her husband, Rodney of East Liverpool and three sons, William “Bill” Reiner and his wife, Paula of Wellsville; Lee Reiner and his companion, Lyssa of Warren and Bruce Reiner and his wife, Beth of Youngstown. There are six grandchildren, Paige Clark, Charles Clark, Mitchell Reiner, Michael Reiner, Shannon Williams and Rebecca Bain, along with two stepgrandchildren, Heather Welsh and Shaun Welsh and his wife, Emily and eight great-grandchildren.
Clair also leaves behind a brother, Kenneth Reiner of Cortland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Mildred Fox and her husband, Russ, along with three brothers, William Reiner and his wife, Shirley, Dale Reiner and his wife, Helen and Harry Reiner.
Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 12, where the family will be present from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Reverend Steven McKeown of the Community of Celebration in Aliquippa will conduct a service at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will conduct full military honors at that time.
Following the service, friends and family will gather at the American Legion Post #374 for a continued time of fellowship.
Clair’s family is grateful for the kindness shown to him by his friends at the Lisbon Eagles Club, especially during his illness.
