A man died after crashing his car in Deerfield Township.

DEERFIELD TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A single-car crash in Portage County killed an elderly man Friday night around 7 p.m.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 85-year-old Donald Koscher of Hiram was heading north on Route 14 in Deerfield Township.

He went off the road, struck a tree and drove into a ditch near a roundabout, just south of Route 224.

According to officials, Koscher was not wearing a seat belt and died from his injures.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the Highway Patrol said it’s possible the thick, overnight fog could have been a factor.
