LOWELLVILLE, Ohio – Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. Lucy Catholic Church, with Rev. Shawn Conoboy officiating, for Stanley J. “Stush” Kurpis, 93, who passed away Friday, January 20, 2017.
Stanley was born June 14, 1923, in Sligo, Pennsylvania, the son of Stanley M. and Martha (Vitka) Kurpis.
He retired in 1985 from Federal Wholesale Company in Hubbard after 35 years as a semi driver.
Stanley was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Parish in Struthers as well as Christ the Good Shepherd Parish in Campbell.
He was very active in the church, serving as V.P. of the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph Church. He volunteered for many years at Holy Trinity Church and St. Joseph the Provider Church, performing various maintenance jobs. He also volunteered at St. Joseph the Provider Bingo Office, and the church festivals at Holy Trinity.
He loved camping and gardening and also enjoyed listening to polkas. Above all, Stanley will always be remembered as a hard worker, who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Stanley leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kathy (Tim) Ritter of Struthers, Carol (Fred) Sinz of Lowellville and Christine Kurpis also of Lowellville and his grandchildren, Frederick Sinz, Jr., Samuel M. Sinz, Timothy (Angela) Ritter and Kara Ritter.
Besides his parents; Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Janet and his three sisters, Mary Donahue, Betty Hantz and Helen Warner.
The Kurpis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends Monday evening, January 23, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and again Tuesday morning, January 24 from 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
