FARRELL, Pennsylvania – A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Mrs. Hortense Armella Woods will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Valley Baptist Church with Pastor T. James Harrison delivering the eulogy.
Mrs. Woods departed this life Sunday, January 22, 2017 at O’Brien’s Nursing Home, she was 82 years old.
Mrs. Woods was born March 19, 1934 in Farrell, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Clarence and Emma Lee Austin.
She was employed G.C. Murphy Co. for 12 years and was also employed as a G.I inspector for a construction company.
Mrs. Woods started playing the piano and organ at the age of six. She was a gifted musician who dedicated her talents to various churches in the Shenango Valley.
Her husband, Andrew Woods, Sr. whom she married on June 30, 1951 preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, Andrew Woods, Jr., of Farrell, Pennsylvania, Marvin Woods and his companion, Tracy of Sharon Pennsylvania, Diane Woods–Ashley and husband, Eugene of Phoenix, Arizona; her brothers, Clarence Austin of Farrell, Paul Austin of Campbell, Ohio, Lawrence and Eugene Austin, both of West Middlesex; her sisters, Marian Pope of New Jersey, Willie Cromartie of Hermitage and Beverly Williams of Farrell; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and a host other relatives and devoted friends, Shona Cook, Geraldine Wherry, Macie Tanner and Nathalee Lampkins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Diane Lavern; her brothers, Reuben and James Austin; her sisters, Nancy and Janette Austin; her great-grandchildren, Reaqown, Jalen, Tre’von and A’son Eilam and Brooke Hampton.
Friends may call Friday, January 27 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at J.E. Washington Funeral Home in Farrell.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 28 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Valley Baptist Church prior to the service.
