Police: 1 person taken to hospital after shooting in New Castle

While in custody, the suspect admitted to shooting the male victim

The victim of a shooting outside a New Castle 7-Eleven is in stable condition at St. Elizabeth hospital in Youngstown.


NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – The victim of a shooting outside a New Castle 7-Eleven is in stable condition at St. Elizabeth hospital in Youngstown.

Saturday night around 9:45 p.m., officers were called to the Highland Ave. gas station’s parking lot to investigate a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the stomach.

According to the police report, the suspect, 17-year-old Lanny Baker, was inside a house on Florence Ave. Officials from New Castle and the Pennsylvania State Police set up a perimeter around the house and all occupants were called out.

When Baker was taken into custody, the report states he admitted to shooting the male victim during an altercation. He then released the gun to the police department.

Baker is being charged as an adult with criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a minor.
