Carmel R. Galioto, Struthers, Ohio - obit

STRUTHERS, Ohio – Services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Youngstown to honor Carmel Rose Galioto, who passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 1, 2017, peacefully in her sleep with family by her side.

Friends may call at the church one hour before the service.

In lieu of flowers tributes can be made to the family.

Carmel was an orphan during the great depression. Her father, Carmen Bruno succumbed to the flu before her birth and her mother, Angelina Marie Anzevino, passed away when Carmel was nine. She learned through her hardships to be stronger and more resilient than any child should have to be.

Notwithstanding her childhood adversity, she married the boy next door, Anthony Galioto, a WWII vet and B&O Railroad worker, on April 19, 1941. Together they built a family from two sons, Pasquale and Anthony, Jr., that spanned five generations.

From her two sons came ten grandchildren, Terri (Brian) Murrell of Cincinnati, Lynn (Ken) Kroeger of North Carolina, John Galioto of Cincinnati, George (Christy) Galioto of Cincinnati, LeeAnne (Bill Tucker) Galioto, Angela (Shane) Russo of Boardman, David (Yvonne Berlin) of Struthers, Jim (Angela Chan) Galioto of Struthers, Andrea Lambe of Struthers and Pamela Galioto of Struthers.

She is survived by all of her grandchildren; her son, Pasquale (Mary Galioto) of Cincinnati; her daughter-in-law, Jayne Galioto of Struthers, as well as 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eternally beloved husband and her son, Anthony

She was everything to so many and she was adored by anyone who knew her. To say that she was a homemaker would not do her justice; Carmel was a family maker. The true epitome of mother, her family spread beyond the bonds of mere blood relation. Her greatest pride was in caring for others as if to protect them from the life she had endured. Her friends and families’ lives now undeniably better, and more fulfilled by merely having been graced by her spaghetti or her smile.

As her son would often state, “If there is a heaven, she has a seat reserved at the saints’ table.”
