YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Dr. Mary Elizabeth Miller made her transition to eternity Friday, March 3, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving sons.
She was born November 20, 1938 to Robert and Elizabeth Campbell in Youngstown, Ohio.
Mary was a member of New Bethel Church in Youngstown, Ohio.
She moved to Gary, Indiana as a teenager where she met and married Paul M. Miller, Sr. and together they raised their family. They were married for 32 years. Paul Miller, Sr. proceeded her in death on June 16, 1993.
Mary Miller was a caseworker for the Gary Welfare Department before deciding to pursue a career in teaching which was her greatest passion. Mary began her teaching career with the East Chicago Indiana School System on September 9, 1979 as a special education teacher. Previous to the start of her teaching career, Mary had already obtained a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Calumet College on July 29, 1976. She later earned a Master’s Degree from Saint Xavier College on August 6, 1983. Mary Miller achieved a lifelong dream, when she received a Doctor Of Education Degree from Nova Southern University on January, 31, 2003.
Dr. Mary Miller was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and enjoyed spending time with her sorors.
Dr. Mary Miller was proceeded in death by her husband, Paul Miller, Sr.; her brother, Hughes Campbell; mother, Elizabeth Campbell Rivers; stepfather, Louis Rivers; grandmother, Mattie Murray and special family members, James Frazier, Rose Echols, Jimmy Murray and Thomas Murray.
She leaves to hold close and cherish her memory two sons, Paul M. Miller, Jr. and Robert Miller; daughter, Sherri Mason (Ed); brother, Curtis Campbell and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friend, George Mosely.
Calling hours will be 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11 at New Bethel Baptist Church.
Service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11 at the church.
