WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Champion man was indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury as a result of an investigation by Children Services.
Michael Russell Tenney, 63, is charged with two counts of child endangering and one count of felonious assault.
According to the indictment, Tenney hurt a 5-year-old grandson who was in his care.
A Trumbull County Sheriff’s report says investigators were called to Trumbull Memorial Hospital on January 15 for a suspicious injury to the 5-year-old boy. The boy had broken his arm, which was also bruised. The boy told doctors that he had fallen off a couch at his grandfather’s house, according to a police report.
Nurses said, however, that the injuries weren’t consistent with a fall off a couch, the report said. The injuries were so severe that they would require surgery, they said.
The boy was again questioned, and police said he told officers that Tenney had pulled him too hard while he was disciplining him.
Tenney pleaded not guilty to the charges on Thursday and a pretrial was set for 8:45 a.m. March 16.
