CAMPBELL, Ohio – Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Christ the Good Shepherd Parish at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. John Jerek officiating for Eleanor D. Verba, 93, who passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, March 9, 2017, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
Eleanor was born February 6, 1924, in Campbell, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Anna Stefko Verba.
Eleanor was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and she was employed in the housewares department of Strouss Hirshberg.
Eleanor was a devote member of St. John the Baptist Slovak Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for over 65 years. She enjoyed many church activities, her favorites included the St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild.
Eleanor filled much of her free time traveling and she toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
Eleanor is survived by her sisters, Anne Stanislaw of Warren, Ohio and Joan Crowe (James) of Cincinnati, Ohio; two nieces, Joan Shanahan (Brien) and Elisabeth Wilson (Patrick); two nephews, Jerome Stanislaw (Jeanine) and Dr. James Stanislaw (Jodi) and 17 great-nieces and nephews. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Edward; brother-in-law, Dr. Jerome Stanislaw and niece, Jacqueline Stanislaw Zinn.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities Diocese of Youngstown.
Eleanor’s family extends a special thank you to the staff at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland for their kindness, care and support.
The Verba family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home and will receive family and friends one hour prior to the funeral mass, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon at St. John the Baptist Church, 159 Reed Ave. Campbell, Ohio.
Burial will follow in St John’s the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
