BERLIN CENTER, Ohio – There will be a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 at Canfield Presbyterian Church for Barbara Polley Schrader, 81, of Berlin Center, Ohio who died of pneumonia on Friday, March 17, 2017 at University Hospital Portage Medical Center. She was caring, competent and fun to be around.
Barbara was born December 20, 1935 in Struthers, a daughter of the late Ernest W. and Jeanette (McClure) Polley.
Barbara graduated from Canfield High School and Grove City College.
Inspiring many children, she taught business subjects at high schools in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She also taught at Katharine Gibbs school for secretaries in New Jersey.
The family celebrates her many gifts as a beloved mother, matriarch and sister. Her talent with music expressed itself by singing with national and international championship, Sweet Adelines as well as participating in church choral and bell choirs. She loved water and chose her last home to be near her son and Berlin Lake. She loved the ocean, was a world traveler and was active in Canfield Presbyterian Church. The Red Hat ladies were right up her ally. Artistic talents were exhibited in museum quality counted cross stitch heirlooms. All her life, Barbara cared about animals and supported numerous animal charities and causes.
She leaves her son, Mark and his wife, Susan of Berlin Center; five grandsons and six great-grandchildren, all of whom live in the Cleveland area.
She is survived by two sisters, Katie Eells and Jean Boell, who reside in Philadelphia and two beloved dog companions.
Friends may call on Sunday, March 26 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. at the Canfield Presbyterian Church prior to the service.
The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions in Barbara’s name to an animal charity of choice.
