HUBBARD, Ohio – Thomas Ray Monroe, 94, of 6469 Mason Avenue, Hubbard, departed this life Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 6:25 p.m. at Guardian Health Care.
He was born January 28, 1923, in Ripley, Mississippi, the son of Gratz F. and Angie McCarley Monroe, coming to the area as a child.
Mr. Monroe was employed with Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. for 40 years as a carpenter, before retiring in 1978. He was also the owner/operator of Ray’s Roofing and Spouting for many years.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Youngstown and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during World War II stationed in the Philippines, receiving several honors.
He leaves to mourn two daughters, Ms. Faye A. Betha of Lyndhurst and Ms. Angie L. Monroe of Trabuco Canyon, California; four sisters, Ms. Angie Porter of Dayton, Ms. Sue Page of Youngstown, Mrs. Mary Frances Anderson of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Ms. Alice Clopton of Youngstown; one brother-in-law, Milton Anderson of Ann Arbor, Michigan and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Wallace Monroe; parents and three sisters, Beatrice Booher, Alma Holmes and Sandra Morris.
Private services were held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Chapel.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
