HUBBARD, Ohio – Pastor John W. Jackson, Sr., 79, of Hubbard, entered eternal rest on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Youngstown Health Center.
Pastor Jackson was born January 26, 1938 in Lowndesboro, Alabama, a son of Jesse James and Mary Elizabeth Dudley Jackson.
He was a 1958 graduate of Southeast High School and attended Kent State University.
He worked 30 years as an assembler at General Motors Lordstown and was an entrepreneur.
He was a former member of Phillips Chapel C.O.G.I.C. where he was ordained an Elder in 1980. He formerly served as assistant pastor at Heavenly Place C.O.G.I.C. and president of YPWW at the Youngstown District Level before founding and pastoring The Word of Life C.O.G.I.C.
He leaves to mourn his passing but to rejoice in his peace, his wife, the former missionary, Gloria L. Davis, whom he married December 8, 2001; his children, John W. (Penny) Jackson, Jr. and Curtis (Debbie) Jackson both of Alliance, Gregory (Kimberly) Jackson of Canal Fulton, Donald Jackson and Daryl (Bernadette) Jackson both of Canton, Andrea (Jeffrey) Riley of Massillon, Pastor Jonathan D. (Latrece) Jackson, Sr. of Youngstown and Elder Mark T. Jackson of Bedford; a stepdaughter, N. Denise (Melvin) Kimble of Allenhurst, Georgia; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Pearl Williams of Hubbard and Jill Jackson of Youngstown; three brothers, Elder Louis (Simmie) Jackson of Hubbard, Superintendent Stafford (Bobbie J.) Jackson of Youngstown and Superintendent Clarence (Jacqueline) Jackson of Tallmadge; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Jackson of Hubbard and a host of family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Mother Sylvia Washington Jackson; a sister, Bernice Hallman; five brothers, Willie R. Jackson, James E. Jackson, James (Sarah) Jackson, Jr., Ike Jackson and Superintendent Eddie Jackson, Sr.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 7 at Heavenly Place C.O.G.I.C. from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Funeral services will follow promptly at 11:00 a.m.
