NILES, Ohio – Douglas Dawson, 50, of Niles, Ohio entered into eternal life on Sunday, April 2, 2017 after a long, hard fought battle with addiction. He is now at peace, struggling no more.
Doug was born May 13, 1966 in Steubenville, Ohio the son of the late Dwight “Moe” Dawson and Patricia Dawson.
Doug was never at a loss for words, always telling it like it is and never passing up an opportunity to make others laugh. He found great joy in the simple things in life. One of his favorite pastimes when his daughter, Alissa was growing up, was taking long walks in the woods exploring nature, wildlife, hunting, fishing and appreciating the beauty of God’s creation. He was an avid reader with a diverse interest in topics, most particularly historical, fiction, poetry and world history. Doug’s passion for music consumed him, comforted him and truly fed his soul. He also had the ability to write beautiful poetry. He enjoyed the many years that he coached baseball in Niles, Ohio when his stepsons were playing.
Doug was a 1984 graduate of Howland High School and he also attended Kent State University.
His intellectual capacity was broadened by his voracious reading and his great ability to retain everything that he read. He also loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Doug was employed by Marchese’s Concrete Couture Co. in Niles, Ohio.
Doug will be dearly missed by his loving daughter, Alissa Marie Dawson and his grandson, Ashton Allen Floyd of Niles. Those also left to cherish his memory are his beautiful mother, Patricia Dawson of Brookfield, Ohio and his loving sister, Paula Yauger of Warren. Doug is also survived by his Godson and nephew, Zachary Yauger and his niece, Taylor Yauger of Niles. He leaves his stepsons and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins with whom he had a very close relationship and with whom he shared many happy times. He had many friends that he cherished who will forever miss him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight “Moe” Dawson who died November 30, 2016; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Mary Krulcik and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Doris Dawson.
The family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to the St. Vincent De Paul Society or the Warren Family Mission.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at our Lady of Mt. Carmel Basilica, 343 Via Mt. Carmel in Youngstown with the Very Reverend Msgr. Michael J. Cariglio, Jr. as celebrant and the Reverend Joseph Rudjak as concelebrant.
Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017 at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren and one hour prior to the Mass from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church.
