HUBBARD, Ohio – There will be services held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home for Joan C. Bushey age 87, of Hubbard who passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
Joan was born December 23, 1929 in Jamestown, New York a daughter of Oscar and Ella Swanson Carlson.
She was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School.
She received her Registered Nurse diploma in 1950 through the diploma program at W.C.A. Hospital of Jamestown, New York. In 1971 she received her B.S. in Education from California State College in California, Pennsylvania. She continued on to receive her Vocational I Certificate in 1977 from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1981 she received her Master’s in Vocational Education from Kent State University.
She was an RN and a teacher at the Trumbull County Joint Vocational School for many years. Joan was a Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor. She was a VICA Advisor, a member of the VICA Safety Committee where she helped organize the first Disaster Drill in 1987. In 1986 she helped organize the SADD Program at JVS.
In addition to her many achievements she was a Past President of the North Central & North East Region DCT/DCHO Coordinators 1983-1985. She served as a member of the State Planning Committee for DCT/DCHO Coordinators Annual Conference. She also served as a member of the Ohio Vocational Association; as well as the TCJVSTA Social Committee Chairman.
She was a member of The Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown where she was the secretary for many years.
Her husband Norman D. Bushey whom she married June 20, 1953 passed away April 6, 2006.
She will be sadly missed by her family; her son Mark G. Bushey (Jacqueline Sage) of Denver, Colorado and her daughter, Lynette Bushey of Asheville, North Carolina. She also leaves her grandson, Ryan Bushey and two nieces, Susan Snelling of Gainesville, Florida and Janet Brown of Jacksonville, Florida.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Herbert Carlson and her sister, Elizabeth Frederick.
There will be calling hours from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Joan will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood New York.
