SALEM, Ohio – JoEllen Johnston, age 79, of Salem, Ohio, died at 6:58 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Essex of Salem I.
She was born September 17, 1937 in Marietta, the daughter of the late Chester E. and Myra K. (Smith) Williams.
JoEllen worked for 40 years for the Salem Public Library as a reference librarian and in technical services.
She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour.
She was a 1955 graduate of Barberton High School, a 1960 graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor’s of Art in English, member of Chi Omega Sorority and the Ohio Library Council.
JoEllen was an animal lover, had several cats and her beloved beagle dog, Rusty, who preceded her in death.
Survivors include, two sons, Joel T. Johnston and Daniel A. Johnston, both of Salem.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 14 at the Grandview Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Jerome “Kip” Colegrove officiating.
Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery.
