POLAND, Ohio – Eleanor A. Smith, 87, passed away Tuesday morning, April 11, 2017, at Hospice House.
Eleanor was born December 23, 1929, in Rimersburg, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Milton and Laura Best Houser and came to this area in 1950.
She was a loving wife and homemaker and worked outside the home for local restaurants as a cook and waitress, including Tangier Pizza and the restaurant at Strouss’ Department Store.
Mrs. Smith was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and of the Pittsburgh Steelers and loved to watch them play on television. She also enjoyed going to Mountaineer Racetrack & Casino in West Virginia and she loved the time she spent with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Eleanor leaves two daughters, Barbara (James) Forgac of Youngstown and Brenda Smith (Tom Kotsol) of Campbell; a son, Joseph Smith of Youngstown; two grandchildren, Laura Arroyo-Rupe (Jason) and Jolene Baldado (Edward), both of Youngstown; three great-grandchildren, Laura, Julianna and Alison, who lovingly called her “Gigi”; a brother, Eugene (Shirley) Houser of Rimersburg and a sister, Virginia (Robert) Conner of Rimersburg.
Eleanor’s husband of 42 years, Walter E. Smith, whom she married February 11, 1948, passed away April 22, 1990. A son, Walter Smith, Jr., is also deceased.
Per Eleanor’s wishes, funeral services were private.
Arrangements were entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown.
