YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The first phase of reconstruction efforts along N. Meridian Road on Youngstown’s west side will begin next week.
Construction will start at Mahoning Avenue on Monday.
Members of Youngstown’s Board of Control approved a “memorandum of understanding” Thursday morning, with Mahoning County commissioners covering payment of the local matching share for a rebuilding of the road.
The Ohio Department of Transportation will oversee the project, which will not only involve construction of the roadway, but also the installation of brand new water lines from Interstate 680 all the way to Cornersburg.
“The initial part of the project will be pave the northbound lanes because they will be diverting all traffic, north and southbound, into the northbound lanes,” said Deputy Director of Public Works Charles Shasho.
Work will also include the replacement of storm sewers, Shasho said.
Traffic will be maintained but drivers should expect lane restrictions and delays.
Drivers should use caution in the construction zone.
The project will be completed in three phases and is expected to take six months.
