NEW CASTLE, Pennsylvania – Daniel Steven Latcheran, 63, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday morning, April 16, 2017, at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center after a brief illness.
Daniel was born on January 30, 1954, at Jameson Memorial Hospital, a son of the late George and Joyce Ann Lumpp Latcheran.
He was a 1971 graduate of New Castle Senior High School and attended Youngstown State University before matriculating to Clarion University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1975.
Daniel began his retail career at Gimbel’s Department Store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as an assistant buyer in 1975. From there, he began a long and illustrious career at Kaufmann’s Department Store spanning over 26 years. He worked in many capacities and moved wherever he was needed. His last position with the company was in Syracuse, New York where he was the Divisional Vice President/General Manager of Dentiny USA, formerly Carousel Center. He then began Providence Business Dynamics of which he was the Principle for two years in the Syracuse area. He retired from his retail business career in 2011 with General Growth Properties as General Manager of Burlington Towne Center in Burlington, Vermont.
He took such pride in his home and loved caring and maintaining his cars. He enjoyed hunting with his father and would jump at any opportunity to join him. Golf was another passion of his. He loved the NCAA men’s basketball tournament every year competing with his family. He would send out funny updates every morning. Daniel was the best fan anyone could ever be for his children’s soccer careers. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame Football. Football season was his favorite time of the year!
Surviving are his wife, the former Georgianne Reider, whom he married October 16, 1976; his son, George Daniel and his wife, Gina of Cleveland and his daughter, Anna Elizabeth of Boston, Massachusetts. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grandchildren, twin baby girls due May 1. Siblings include two brothers, Marc George and his wife, Ruth Ann of Carolina Shores, North Carolina and Gary Michael and his wife, Alison of Ocean View, Delaware and one sister, Katherine Teresa (Teri) Schweinebraten of Lubbock, Texas.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 West Falls Street in New Castle, Pennsylvania.
A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Frank Almade, pastor of Mary Mother of Hope Parish, officiating.
Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetary will occur immediately following.
