WARREN, Ohio – Charles Simmons, 92, of 3000 Carlton Drive NW in Warren, departed this life Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. at Signature Health Care, following an extended illness.
He was born January 13, 1925 in Niles, Ohio, the son of Oscar and Clara Porter Simmons, residing in the area for 87 years.
Mr. Simmons was employed with G.M. Packard Electric for 30 years as an oiler, before retiring in 1985.
He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and enjoyed sports and music.
He also attended Warren G. Harding High School.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a PFC from 1943 – 1945, during World War II, receiving the European Theater Award, two Bronze Service Stars and a Good Conduct Medal.
He married Mary Clark-Simmons April 2, 2007.
Besides his wife of Warren, he leaves to mourn one son, Charles B. (Betty) Simmons of Warren; one stepson, Frederick (Vanessa) Clark of Warren; three stepdaughters, Ms. Ruby Lee of Warren, Mrs. Sharron (Randall) Napier of Liberty Township and Mrs. Cecelia (Jeffrey) Martin of Youngstown; one brother, Walter (Edna) Simmons of Warren; 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Marvin Simmons; one stepdaughter, Ms. Kimberly Scippio and one stepson, Calvin Clark.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the Friendship Baptist Church.
Calling Hours will be held one hour prior to service from 11:00 – 12:00 Noon.
Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery.
Family will receive friends at 3000 Carlton Drive NW.
Arrangements of comfort were handled by the Sterling-McCullough Williams Funeral Home.
