PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – Laurel Anne (Williams) Stupka passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 10:47 a.m. at UPMC Passavant McCandless, following a courageously fought four and a half year battle against ovarian cancer.

Laurel was born on October 17, 1956 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, to Patrick D. and Esther A. (Book) Williams. She was a delightful and loving child with a compassionate heart for others.

Laurel was a member of the West Middlesex High School class of 1975 and a graduate of Geneva College, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in human resource management.

She had been employed by Community Counseling Center of Hermitage, Pennsylvania.

Prior to relocating to Pittsburgh, Laurel was a long time active member of the West Middlesex Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday school and she and her husband, Kevin, served as church co-treasurers.

Laurel enjoyed nature, particularly ferns, forests and lush greenery. Fall was her favorite season as she looked forward to viewing the vibrantly colored foliage each October. She had an artistic eye for decor and enjoyed dabbling in interior design. She was a kind and patient listener and a problem-solver and also a great friend who maintained many lifelong friendships.

On September 3, 1977, Laurel wed Kevin Stupka and together they spent 39 loving and fun-filled years of marriage.

The greatest joy in Laurel’s life was found in their daughter, Melissa. Laurel, Kevin and Melissa shared so much love in their small family. This love grew with the addition of Melissa’s husband, Christopher Anderson. They made beautiful memories together, whether they were traveling on special family vacations or simply talking on the telephone multiple times per day.

Laurel was a loving wife to Kevin, an amazing mother to Melissa, a devoted daughter to her parents and the best big sister her siblings could have ever hoped to have had. Her family drew great strength from Laurel’s unwavering determination and faith. She will be greatly missed at her mother’s dinner table each Sunday.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin Stupka, of McCandless, Pennsylvania; her daughter, Melissa Stupka and son-in-law, Christopher Anderson, of Pittsburgh; her mother, Esther Williams of West Middlesex; her brother, Patrick A. Williams, of West Middlesex and six sisters, Dorothy LaShell “Shelly” Campbell and her husband, Tom, of LaGrange, Georgia, Lisa Weimer and her husband, Pete, of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, Valerie McQuaid and her husband, Mike, of Limerick, Pennsylvania, Jane Williams of West Middlesex, Joan Jones and her husband, Raymond, of Hermitage and Shannon Reaver and her husband, Steve, of West Middlesex as well as many loving extended family members.

Laurel was preceded in death by her father, Patrick D. Williams.

Memorial contributions may be made to UPMC Cancer Center Passavant to the attention of Libby Shumaker, 9100 Babcock Blvd., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15237.
